Spring is here. Prepare yourself for allergies with the help of Essential Oils and Chakra Pillows

Can you feel it? Spring is coming...

...and unfortunately for those that suffer from allergies so are dust, pollen and air particles that can cause us to be miserable and keep us from enjoying life to its fullest. 

But don't fret; if you like to avoid medications like I do, there is an array of essential oils that can help you strengthen your immune system before allergies hit and also help ward off annoying symptoms such as nasal congestion, itchy eyes, runny nose and asthma symptoms.

Natural, therapeutic grade essential oils are filled with a powerful aroma and high vibrational healing qualities that can ease your symptoms and help you feel better.  These aromas are derived from plants and bring you a pure experience that will uplift your heart and help heal your body. Have you ever smelled a flower with such a beautiful fragrance that it brought back happy memories and overjoyed your soul?  Can you bring back the memory of smelling an orange, or a luscious bouquet of lavender? Essential oils are packed with goodness and aroma that has been known throughout history for their natural healing properties.
Essential oils are easy to use and can last a long time. They are readily absorbed by our skin (the largest cell receptor in our body) and can be used with or without a carrier oil, according to how sensitive your skin is or how strong the oil is. Some carrier oils are apricot kernel, jojoba, or grape-seed oil and a few drops blended with the carrier oil will do the trick. Essential oils are very potent so you only need a couple of drops to fully experience them.
Some oils can be taken internally (absolutely need to be therapeutic grade) and some should never be ingested. Their label will say if they are safe to take internally. Look for the GRAS sign to make sure. Your oils should always be 100% pure, preferably organic and free of synthetic compounds. They might be a little more expensive but you feel better knowing you get a better and safer product.

Essential oils can be very helpful in boosting your immune system and preparing you for allergy season. Some of the best oils to use for clearing your symptoms are the following. (Please note that these oils have many qualities that can't all be listed here. We will be focusing on those qualities that can help ease allergy symptoms):

Cypress: Gives energy- improving circulation throughout the lungs and body and strengthening the blood capillary walls.  It is an immune stimulant, tightens tissue, and helps with breathing, lung spasms, and colds.
 It is a lymphatic decongestant, astringent, and anti-mucus. Benefits pancreas insufficiency, whooping cough, gut infections, pleurisy, pulmonary tuberculosis, asthma, bronchitis, stress, and general healing. Helps to relieve breathing difficulties and suppress coughing. May benefit symptoms of Asthma.

Eucalyptus: Beneficial for sinus problems, asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, coughs, sore throat and mouth infections. It is anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-catarrh, and expectorant. This chemotype better suited for long term use for chronic respiratory conditions and best suited for viral or bacteria infections. When mixed with a carrier oil such as grape seed, jojoba, or fractionated coconut oil, it can safely be applied topically to chest and throat areas.

Ginger: Regulates moisture, beneficial for catarrh, chronic bronchitis, congestion, cough, sinusitis, sore throat, tonsillitis, swollen glands and dries excess mucus. It also may reduce the drainage of a runny nose and ease respiratory infection. Assists with colds, flu, fever, infectious and contagious disease, nervous exhaustion, and tiredness. Decreases respiratory symptoms such as constricted breathing, wheezing and coughing. 

Lavender: Anti-inflammatory, builds immunity, relieves headaches and can ease muscle pain, acts as a natural antihistamine. Beneficial for skin conditions, anti-spasmodic, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, acne, arthritis, rheumatism and insomnia. Has assisted in elimination of waste through lymphatic system, minimizing allergies, asthma, earache, chronic fatigue syndrome and boost immunity. When in doubt use this oil. Aromatic influences: health, love, peace and consciousness. When angry massage the solar plexus with lavender. All lavenders calm emotional extremes and aid deep trance, everyday spirituality- balance higher and lower chakras. It has a very calming and relaxing, soothing aroma. Diffuse to help ease mental strain.

 Lemon: Assists with digestive problems, cleansing of the lymphatic system, aids concentration, fever reduction, infectious diseases, colds, throat infection, asthma. Beneficial for an air disinfectant, the immune system (may stimulate red and white blood cell formation), and flu. Also antiseptic, anti-infectious, antibacterial, blood thinner, emotional clarity, apathy, awareness, bringing joy, relieving touchiness, grudges, resentment, concentration and focus. Excellent made into an herb tea sweetened with stevia or honey.
protects immunity, relieves respiratory issues.  Excellent antibacterial agent, which makes it well suited for respiratory inflammation.  Cleansing to the environment.  Citrus oils can be photosensitive, so exercise caution with exposure to UV rays.

Peppermint: Benefits the respiratory system, opens the sensory system, for stimulation, strengthening, shock, fever, headache, migraine, antiseptic, throat infection, colds and flu. Beneficial for asthma, bronchitis, itchy skin, anti-spasmodic, inflammation, swelling, sinuses, anti-bacterial. It mixes well with all oils (use in small amounts).Energizes and relieves mental fatigue, increases alertness, improves concentration, reduces fevers. Helps to improve breathing by opening sinuses and airways and has anti-inflammatory properties. Apply to temples for headache pain. Apply to back of neck to relieve stress and tension.

Roman Chamomile: Excellent anti inflammatory. Eases puffiness, strengthens tissues, and an excellent cleanser. Beneficial for asthma of nervous origin. Aromatic influence: a relaxant, sedative, eases anxiety, worries, nervous system shock, tension, anger and fear. Gives patience, peace, and calms the mind.
It is a powerful antispasmodic and muscle relaxant that can be used as an emergency remedy during asthma attacks, rub on solar plexus, wrists and temples.  It is important to note that one should avoid Roman Chamomile if allergic to ragweed.
To make your own blend with your favorite oils, take a couple of teaspoons of a carrier oil and add 2 or 3 drops of your best suited oils from above according to symptoms and personal preference. Mix blend in a dark glass 1 oz bottle with a dropper and use when needed. Massage oils around neck, behind ears, around temples (avoid eyes!), or rub on chest to inhale throughout the day.

If you have had a chance to purchase a Chakra Pillow from me, this is an excellent way to enjoy the qualities of essential oils during your quiet time, during sessions or during the night while you are sleeping. Add a drop of Lavender for its calming benefits and a better night’s sleep. Add a drop of Peppermint on your pillow (on the corner to avoid eye contact) to open up sinuses and help induce deep breathing.  You can even take it in your car and let it work on you while you are driving. Just add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil on your pillow and enjoy its relaxing and revitalizing qualities while letting your chakra pillow work on your energy center as well.

Another way to benefit from essential oils is to massage oils around the neck and behind the ears, or add a few drops to tissue and inhale throughout the day as needed.

For congestion combine one or two drops each of Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Lemon in a bowl with hot water.  Cover head and bowl with towel, close eyes and inhale deeply until you feel your air passages clearing.

For allergy symptoms combine two drops each of Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint (make sure they are food grade) in a small amount of water.  Swish inside mouth for 10 – 20 seconds, and then swallow. 

You may also use a diffuser in a room and enjoy the oils clearing benefits throughout the day.  

So prepare to meet spring with confidence and stock up on some essential oils and chakra pillows for your health!
